AFCEA Education Scholarships for Teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

[ Scholarship Instructions ]

The AFCEA Educational Foundation will offer scholarships of $5,000 to students actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate education degree for the purpose of teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) subjects at a U.S. middle or secondary school.

At least 35 scholarships will be awarded annually. The scholarships are made possible by a generous contribution from AFCEA International.

The AFCEA Gulf Coast Chapter awards two $512 scholarships annually to high school seniors preparing to pursue an undergraduate degree in an appropriate technical discipline. The Gulf Coast Chapter awards scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial need. AFCEA Scholarship applications are available at the links above, the AFCEA Chapter meetings, and local high school guidance counselors. Eligibility criteria include:

  1. Must be a high school senior.

  2. Must be entering an undergraduate degree program in an appropriate technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, or Physics.

The nomination package includes up to 3 items:

  1. The completed scholarship application. (required)

  2. A 500 to 512 word essay titled “How Information Technology is changing our Social Culture” (i.e. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, text-messaging, etc.). (required)

  3. The bonus question: “What is the significance of the number 512 in the context of Information Technology?” Answer in 128 words or less. (optional)
